You can finish the main story rushing through it in maybe an hour, but it took me almost 3 to 100% completion. If you do have any issues, though, there is a god mode and other settings to make the game a little easier and more accessible which is always a welcome addition. Some of the boss fights can feel a little bit frustrating in setup, but nothing here is overtly challenging. You get multiple items and you tab between them and then use them with one button. You pay as a turnip boy who refuses to pay his taxes. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a very fun, yet short romp. I'd highly recommend playing it with a non-gamer friend or partner to really laugh and get the best enjoyment out of it. Turnip Boy is a fun distraction and an easy game to play in a day.

It's not a dealbreaker, but maybe invest in another platform if you want. The game also didn't run well on Switch, having frame stutters every few seconds. There is a post-game mode, but it doesn't hold interest very well and other than additional cosmetics, there is no benefit. I do wish the game was just a bit longer, it feels like there is not much to do after collecting the very easy few hidden objects and rippable documents. You wouldn't be wrong for being interested in the title if only for its look, which is totally valid. The soundtrack is better than it has any right to be, and the pixel-art/cute character portraits match really well with the goofy writing and punchline-based scenarios.

Special mention should go to the visual style and music. Turnip Boy never really expands upon its better ideas - it never has time to within its 2 hour runtime - but the handful of areas and dungeons are fun to traverse, and the items are clever enough to carry the length of the adventure. Frog Detective is similar in that regard, but while that game is a FPS detective game, this is a Zelda-like. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion falls in the growing category of joke games that indie developers create that have the guise of a real game behind it. It just feels unpolished from a gameplay perspective, especially for something as short as a 1-2hr game. And it's easy to get all the collectibles and achievements through normal gameplay without doing anything out of the way. The adorable characters are still worth something and the art, environment, and music is charming. I was also disappointed that there were few original ideas in the game, and I was especially disappointed that the meme content in the beginning wasn't carried throughout the game. high frame drops in the main area especially with hats equipped, bugged actions and achievements that took multiple arbitrary restarts of the game to trigger, boss health bars not appearing sometimes), it was quite a mess in terms of actual gameplay. character dialogue not responding to events in the game, accidentally getting quest items before receiving the quest from the appropriate character locks you out of their initial dialogue, un-skippable dialogue and boss cutscenes), and several bugs (e.g. Unfortunately, that meant it wasn't extremely engaging for me, and on top of the numerous details that I felt were overlooked (e.g. A short, cute game that's straightforward and easy.
